The following list comprises sources of primary materials related to kava and South Pacific Island cultures. Holdings include artifacts, such as bowls used in kava ceremonies, as well as pictures, drawing, photographs, and first-hand accounts of kava use. Where possible I have specified some of the contents of collections and added links.
- Bernice P. Bishop Museum, Hawaii (artifacts,
pictures.)
- British
Museum, department of ethnography (artifacts, pictures.)
- Hawaii State Archives, Hawaii.
- Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University.
- National
Library of Australia.
- Peabody
Museum of Natural History, Yale University (artifacts.)
- The Royal Anthropology Institute Film library (movies)
- Trust Territory Archives, Pacific Collection,
University of Hawaii.
- University
of Pennsylvania Museum
- University of California, San Diego (manuscript collection of Pacific Islands.)
Although not a comprehensive list, it does highlight some of
the major collections in this area. Because most of these
collections are physically scattered and impossible to visit, it
is hard to verify exactly what each contains. In some cases it is
possible to use Internet-related tools, such as hytelnet (library
catalogs) and gophers, to verify some of this information.
