The series, which explores the world of corporate politics, centers on Jim
Profit (Adrian Pasdar). A rising star in the acquisitions department of Gracen
& Gracen, a Fortune 100 company, Jim will do just about anything to assure
his climb up the corporate ladder.
Nora is smitten with Jim, but wed to Peter Gracen (Jack Gwaltney, ex-Bradley
Wyndham ATWT), an executive in the family corporation. "Nora's in a marriage
that has a lot of problems, including an alcoholic, impotent husband. So
there are a lot of things happening that attract her to Jim," she explains.
"She starts out looking for some excitement, some passion, some reason for
getting up every day."
Although it looks in the pilot as though Nora and Jim might embark upon an
affair, as the series progresses they become friends, Hossack notes. "But
Jim's a dark character, so there's a lot of manipulation in their relationship
- on his side."
Meanwhile, "Nora is the good person to a point," Hossack says with a laugh.
"No one's completely innocent on this show, but Nora's fairly innocent in
the beginning. Not to mention complex. There are a lot of dark things in
Nora's past that need to be dealt with."
Nora's not evil, Hossack assures. "She just feels an attraction to Profit,
so she's caught in conflict. She's pushed in a lot of different directions."
Allison Hossack: Posting a Profit
Allison Hossack (ex-Olivia Matthews, AW) holds down the key role of Nora
Gracen in her new Fox series "Profit," a show she describes as "'Twin Peaks'
meets 'Wall Street.' It's a drama, but there's dark humor to it."
