There was a discussion of training and the upcoming Prairielands Training Council. The troop will pay for training. Outdoor Activities – Brian Knox This weekend is the Klondike Derby. We are penciled in for two cabins. We are talking with Troop 13 to see if they will join us. Mark Joseph is running this. He wants to think up some new activities. Jim Marshall wants to know why we are not going to Colorado. He counted 10 boys that want to go. Mary said only 7 had officially signed up. Scott had wanted 20 boys. The Amtrak tickets needed to be purchased by February. Mary suggested a year-long calendar to be put up on the wall. This would let the boys see what activities had been planned. The boys have suggested that they want to do more camping in the summer. Jim suggested a trip to Great America paid for by the troop. Since we are not going to Colorado, the troop does have some money. Rebecca said if the leaders want to have the troop pay their dues, let her know. Elisabeth said she will help set up a summer schedule. She would like to go to a ball game. Mark suggested an overnight at a museum or on a retired military vessel. Jim suggested we have one big event for the end of the school year. DD suggested a trip to Dayton to the Air Museum. Sheila said that some parents of former Scouts mentioned that they would like to receive email. They don’t want day-to-day emails. It would be a good idea to have a second email list. Advancement – Mary Manard Holy Cross and Hoopston are both coming up. DD is doing registration. July will be the troop’s 25th anniversary. Perhaps we should have some type of celebration in the summer. It would be nice to invite all Troop 107’s past Scouts. Mary mentioned that there have been problems getting mail from Prairienet. If you send something, don’t expect troop members to receive it right away. Fundraising – Elisabeth Jenicek Jim Marshall is beginning to organize the chili supper for February 10. The boys need to go out and sell their tickets since he needs money to purchase supplies. The boys will need to show up at the Carpenters Hall by 4:30 to work. Mark mentioned that candy bar sales are coming up. Quartermaster Mark said that we need to fill the quartermaster position since Jeff Fryer is the new Scoutmaster. Jim Marshall was nominated and voted in as the new quartermaster. He said he would like to revamp the storage area and shelving unit. Service Projects – John Taylor The boys contributed 120 service project hours last year. This did not include adult hours. Jim mentioned that the Carpenters Union would like the Scouts to do an opening ceremony for them on March 6 from 5 to 6. They want the Scouts to serve dinner for them as well. March 3 from 6 to 8 PM is the Westview Fun Fest. Scouts who help out with games can get a free hot dog dinner at 5:30. Adult Training – Bill Dick Prairielands Training College will be February 11. This will be an all-day event at the Vet Med building on the U of I campus. Prairieland One Stop Training will be in April. Old Business Bring your aluminum cans the night of parent meetings. Scoutmaster’s Minute – Jeff Fryer Troop enthusiasm is the foundation to the success of the troop. Mary mentioned that it might be a good idea to move the parent meeting to the 3rd Thursday of the month. That way the SPL and ASPL’s could attend, and then pass on information to the Scouts at the PLC. Ann wondered if we really want boys attending the parent meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:29PM. The next meeting will be on February 23 at 7:10PM. Respectfully submitted, Ann Reid Committee Secretary
