Troop 107 Committee Meeting Minutes October 27, 2005 Present: Mark Brandyberry, Rebecca Dressler, Dan Finney, Carolyn Finney, Jeff Fryer, Elisabeth Jenicek, Brian Knox, Sheila Krein, Mary Manard, Jim Marshall, DD McInerney, Ann Reid, Ernie Spaulding, and John Taylor, The meeting was called to order at 7:10 by Mark Brandyberry. The agenda was distributed and approved with the addition of the Colorado trip to New Business. Minutes from the October 6 meeting were distributed and approved. Committee Reports Treasurer – Rebecca Dressler Rebecca distributed the general fund statement, and boys’ activity statements that had not been collected at the last meeting. Jim Marshall gave her $235 from the second hot dog sale. Jim said he would send a thank-you card to Jerry’s IGA. He will have the boys sign it. Rebecca needs to know the fees from the last campout. Outdoor Activities – Lorraine Logue Lorraine was not here. Brian Knox is running the next campout. We will be going to Garden of the Gods on November 4-6. We can do a service project instead of paying camp fees. The service project is picking up litter along the camp trail. This campout will be a backpacking trip with a 2½ mile one-way hike. Brian plans to have the boys work on lashings as well. The December activity will be the “Great Beef Hike”. Brad Purcell is planning this one. It will include hiking at Turkey Run with a stop at the Beef House on the way home. Advancement – Mary Manard The Family Life merit badge will start next week from 6:00 to 7:00. Mary proposes having a merit badge weekend during the Mission to Mars campout in February. Mark reminded us that this is usually a campout geared to first years, not merit badges. Perhaps we could do both. Bill Dick gets his award at the church on Sunday. The award will be part of the 8:00AM service on Sunday. The troop will have a cake the following Thursday in order to celebrate Bill’s award. If boys have partials that they have finished, they can present them to Mary. Fundraising – Elisabeth Jenicek Jim Marshall and Rebecca said that the pancake breakfast made $818. More money will trickle in. We earned more money on the first pancake breakfast. Jim and Dan Finney are going to do a chili supper in February. It will be held at the Masonic Temple or possibly the Elks Club. Mary is organizing popcorn sales. Currently only 5 boys are selling. She still has some in her garage. We need to figure out a different way to sell popcorn next year. Perhaps we should hit a neighborhood with a trailer full of popcorn. Sheila is running the greenery sales. Quartermaster – Jeff Fryer Tents are wearing out. Bill Dick purchased 4 jamboree tents for $110 each. Service Projects – John Taylor 11 people from the troop helped out at Special Olympics bowling. An upcoming service project is the Lions convention on Saturday, November 12 from 6:00 to 7:00PM. The boys will serve as color guard and lead the pledge. They should wear Class A uniforms, and sashes are encouraged. Adult Training – Bill Dick Prairielands Training College will be February 11. This is the next major training. Bill would like to see more Assistant Scoutmasters go through all the training. Next fall will be Wood Badge training. Youth Protection training will be at a parent meeting soon. The boys saw “A Time to Tell” a few weeks ago. There is another video for ages 14-21. Mary said that this video was originally made for Venture crews. Old Business Bring your aluminum cans the night of parent meetings. We already discussed greenery. New Business Mark asked for nominations for new officers and committee chairs. Anyone interested should contact him. We will hold elections in November. Bill said he will be Scoutmaster one more year. If someone would like the position, please talk to Bill. Brian Knox volunteered for the open Outdoor Activities position. This job entails making sure people are organizing outdoor activities. We did not have too much time left to talk about the Colorado trip. Jim Marshall would like to pull his camper and act as a base camp on the trip. Mark said he had discussed the trip with Scout Sullivan. Scott still wants to run the trip. The Troopmaster update was moved to the next meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:27PM. The next meeting will be on November 17 at 7:10PM. Respectfully submitted, Ann Reid Committee Secretary
