The meeting was called to order at 7:10 by John Taylor. The agenda was distributed and approved. Minutes from the January 27 meeting were distributed and approved. Committee Reports Outdoor Activities – Lorraine Logue Lorraine is concerned that not enough parents are volunteering to drive. This is a problem because the Boy Scout insurance does not allow over-packed vans. March 11-13 is Mission to Mars. We do not have a cabin for Friday night. We can get one Saturday. We will let the boys decide what they would like to do for sleeping arrangements. On Sunday the boys need to be back by 3:00 PM for Steve Fuller’s Eagle Court of Honor. The next troop Court of Honor is March 31. April 8-10 is the River to River trip. Brad Purcell is organizing this. We are thinking of having a base camp for the younger scouts. Treasurer – Rebecca Dressler Rebecca is still working on registration. She still has not been given a list of which scouts want Boys’ Life, and which do not. Therefore, she is not sure if she should charge the boys accounts $35 or $25. Mary Manard said that everyone will get Boys’ Life. Bill Dick and a quorum of other parents agreed to this at the pancake breakfast. Several parents bought up the fact that the parent’s committee had previously voted to have Boys’ Life be optional. Some boys never read Boys’ Life, and some families receive more than one copy. During this discussion Bill Dick entered the meeting. He said that Boys’ Life is part of the Boy Scout program and is used to speak to the parents. He felt that the vote to eliminate Boys’ Life as part of the dues was forced by a group of parents. A vote was taken to charge every boy $35 so that each boy will receive Boys’ Life. The accounts of siblings will be credited $10 if they do not want Boys’ Life. Advancement – Mary Manard Wants to know what advancement information the parents want. Fundraising – Elisabeth Jenicek Elisabeth was not here. Candy bar sales are starting. Mark Brandyberry is running the sale, and bars can be picked up at his house. Quartermaster – Jeff Fryer Jeff is searching for a new tent. Service Projects – John Taylor February 25 is the Westview school carnival from 6:00 to 8:00. Boys who work can get a free dinner of a hot dog at 5:30. Pack 7 Pinewood Derby is another possible service project. This will be on March 12 at 8:00 AM at South Side School. Mark Joseph will contact the scoutmaster. Adult Training –Bill Dick Last week’s Prairielands Training College was a success. POST (Pairielands One Stop Training) is in April on the same weekend as River to River. All the training an adult needs is given in a single day. Old Business Bring your cans on the nights of the parent meetings. Jim Marshall said they must be smashed. We discussed bringing in a can smasher. New Business A sign-up sheet for Holy Cross chaperones was passed around. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15. The next meeting will be March 31 at 6:30. Respectfully submitted, Ann Reid Committee Secretary
