Library Cards

Who Can Get a Library Card Here?

Within St. Joseph Township: Anyone who resides in or owns property in St. Joseph Township may get a library card for free. (Your tax dollars help support the library.) Renters within St. Joseph Township may also receive a free card.

Outside of St. Joseph Township: Nonresidents may purchase a library card for $60 annually per household, as long as they live outside the Ogden Grade School district but within the St. Joseph-Ogden High School district. 

Cards for Children, Ages 6-16:  Children must be 6 years old or in the first grade to have their own library card. ALL children under the age of 16 must have the signature of a parent or guardian to receive a card.

 

How to Get a Library Card

 

First Time Cards: Come to the library in person and present identification showing both your name and current residence (Post Office boxes only are not accepted). Acceptable identification includes:

 

valid Illinois driver’s license or state ID card

a piece of canceled mail postmarked within the last 30 days showing your street address

current tax bill

current voter registration card

auto insurance or title

property lease

utility bill

checkbook

Replacement Cards: Lost cards will be replaced for $1.00 per card per occurrence.

Renewal Cards: Bring in your current library card and we will renew it while you wait. If your address has changed, please bring in proof of residence as noted above. If your card has been expired for more than 1 year, you must provide proof of residence.

Expiration Dates: Resident cards are issued for 2 years.  Nonresident cards are issued for one calendar year from date fee is paid.
