Project Summary
The church is situated just east of Greater St. Mark’s, and has been in East St. Louis since 1925. The church is in a new building next door to the old church, which they still use for conferences and workshops. They also have a banquet facility that can be rented out, which they use as a fundraiser.
We are updating a lab that was previously installed by LIS 451 in 2002. The computer lab itself is near the main entrance to the church building on the main floor. It’s a small room (approximately 17×10), and there are no windows. There are only three outlets, and no network cabling or outlets. There is a fairly loud fan presently, but the Pastor says there are plans to replace it. The lab is maintained by church volunteers and the Technology Ministry.
How the Lab Fits into the Mission
The lab will bulk up their programs – they have a lot of ideas for how to use it. One idea includes Sunday school lessons on the computer. They also want to bring computer literacy to the forefront and show the youth of their congregation that there’s more to computers than games. This lab will allow them greater opportunities for outreach to the community by providing the youth of their congregation a place for to do homework.
