Problems and Solutions

  • One week before the second trip, and after having prepared all fifteen computers, we received an email from Pat informing us that we would have to make do with half of the space originally promised.   As we she could not give us the exact dimensions of the new space, we decided to wait until we arrived at the cite to create a floor plan.
  • We addressed this problem by asking Pat exactly what she wanted (concerning the layout) and making it happen.  This solution worked.

  • We were unable to install educational games, as the computers lacked the drivers necessary to recognize the jump drives on which the games were stored.
  • As we didn’t have internet access in the lab, we couldn’t download the driver necessary and gave up on installing the software.

  • Other problems include general inconsistencies in what was promised versus what was delivered. Pat was going to buy licenses for Microsoft Office and planning to open an internet lab to the public the day after our installation.
  • Neither happened, but we avoided crisis by installing open office and making sure that the computers were internet ready.
