Teen Tech is an East St. Louis youth group whose goal is to train youth in technology. The lab is based in the Gethsemane Church. They have two main projects. The first is recording and editing videos which tell stories about their community. The second is to recondition used computers to sell the community. Although the lab is for use by the community, Teen Tech will be responsible for running it which will teach them the basics of computer maintenance and networking.

As one of two projects for the CTC lab, our role was to deliver 10 refurbished computers to be added to the existing network at Gethsemane Church. In addition to the computers, we also brought equipment to them such as cabling and three switches to supplement the existing networking gear already on site. We provided instruction on the parts of a network, how to troubleshoot the computers, used BIOS, load software, upgrade the memory and the Linux operating system. We expect that the lab will be low maintenance due to automatic software updates and cleanup scripts running on the computers.
