Technology
Organization’s Priorities for Implementation of Technology
(1). Summit Ave. Baptist Church’s main priority is education. Computer programs will be put in place for both youth and adults. The adult classes will focus on job training skills (applications, resumes, interview skills) and the youth will revolve around education (homework research, word processing skills, reading skills, etc).
(2). The church will also provide computer and internet access to local community members who may not have access in their homes or other local places.
(3). The Baptist Church has already one computer lab. Now they intend to enhance their computer lab by adding 6 computers in a new lab.
Resources Available to Implement Technology at the Organization
(1). The lab construction has been completed.
(2). They will provide internet. Currently the are set up for wireless using AT&T.
(3). Summit Ave will also provide all furniture.
Software Resources
(1). Educational package
The EP will consist of three basic aspects: reading, writing, and computer literacy.
• These will be supported by open source software or internet resources
• Computer literacy lesson plans will be based on our own originally-created resources, if time is available
• Computer literacy, however, is especially important because the kids we are building these resources for are intensely curious about the inner workings of computers. Our site may be the only place these children can learn about computers. If we can play on that curiousity, we will create a more effective tool for the betterment of the community.
Resources Organization Can Provide for Technology Implementation
(1). Personnel: Summit Ave. has a few members trained to maintain and teach basic computer literacy. Kevin Kim is the major volunteer who will help maintain and arrange computer programs. He is familiar with Windows Operating system, words processor, spreadsheet and excel and so on. Two other members have agreed to teach basics such as word processing and spreadsheets. In the future, they hope to find or train additional personnel for tasks such as: “interneting” (as Kevin says), networking, and web development.
Resources GSLIS Will Need to Provide
(1). Eleven computers to be divided between a lab (six computers) and five classrooms (one computer each.) The printer(s) will be placed within the lab.
(2). Corresponding peripheral devices (keyboards, mice, printers, etc)
