Problems and Solutions

1. A group member drops the class
Right when our project was getting off the ground a group member had to drop the class. This left us with a two person group and the same amount of work to complete. To combat this we had a great talk with Martin who gave us guidance in completing the project. Adam and the entire AB2  also really pitched in to help us complete the project in a timely manner.

2. What to buy?
Our group was in the unique position of being able to purchase new computers for our lab. The meeting with the community partners and Martin’s guidance helped us define the needs of the organization. We wanted to buy computers that would be great for video editing and we wanted the lab to support citizen journalism efforts. For more information about what we specifically bought you can check out our Dell order which is an attachment on this wiki.

3. How do we secure Windows 7?
One of the major problems we faced was securing Windows 7. Because the operating system is brand new no one had an established system for securing Windows 7. For this we relied a lot on the AB2 lab who helped us through the entire security process.

4. Old computers are un-usable
It had been the hope of Salem and our team that we would be able to refurbish the old computers owned by the church and give them out to the community members. Unfortunately we found the computers were really just to old and slow to be usable so we will recycle them. Sometimes the best solution is to know the limitations of the technology you are working with.
