Overview of Organization
History of Organization
Located on the north side of Champaign, Restoration Urban Ministries was founded 15 years ago by Rev. Ervin Williams for the purpose of providing food and spiritual support for individuals and families. Since then the organization has expanded to provide clothing, employment and technical skills training, transitional housing for homeless families, and support for recovery from substance abuse.
Summary of Organization’s Vision, Mission, and Goals
Restoration Urban Ministries is a non-profit, faith-based organization that offers comprehensive services to families and individuals. Services include transitional housing and 6-8 week classes on a variety of topics including self-sufficiency, financial management, “discipleship”, GED completion, life skills, computer skills and health and nutrition information. Workshops are also offered on debt recovery, smoking cessation, home ownership and social skills.
In addition, substance abuse recovery services, job training and a food pantry are available.
Because it is a faith-based organization, RUM does not receive United Way or government funding and must rely on community donations to continue its mission.
