Problems and Solutions
1. Contacting Mrs. Eunice Mortory. We tried over the course of two weeks to contact Mrs. Mortory three times. So far, we are unable to get a hold of her. We double checked with Mrs. Tolson to see that we were contacting her house phone. We were also given the corrected number to her husband’s cell phone. We will try to contact her again over the course of the next few weeks by calling her house phone and her husband’s correct cell phone number. If we still can not get a hold of her we will ask Mrs. Tolson to help facilitate our communication. We hope she can ask Mrs. Mortory about some of the software we will need in our lab as well as if she will be the administrator for the lab after we leave.
Solution: Called Ms. Mortory at home and left a message with a call back number. Ms. Mortory called back and we have been able to contact Ms. Mortory ever since. Ms. Mortory is delighted to be our network admin for the Parks’ Chapel computer lab.
2. Finding an Internet provider. We are having trouble right now finding a company that provides Internet to East St. Louis. We are looking into AT&T, Comcast, Earthlink, Norcom, and Charter. After doing research of Internet providers in the East St. Louis area, we were able to find that Charter Internet can provide Internet at Park’s Chapel. We talked with Mrs. Tolson via email as well as over the phone and we were able to talk to her about finding Internet.
Solution: Our group researched and found Charter Internet to be the best provider for Parks’ Chapel. We called Ms. Tolsen and she was happy to look into Charter Internet. She is in the process of setting it up!
3. Finding all necessary computer equipment. We need to figure out whether we need a router and a modem or just a switch. We are also trying to find the cheapest way we can acquire all these for Park’s Chapel.
Solution: We talked with Mrs. Matory and we decided on having them get a router and a modem for the implementation of the Internet. We will also be providing the switch.
4. We are having trouble making sure the Internet is intstalled by the time we get there on May 4th. We wanted to make sure Parks’ Chapel had Internet when we set up the computer lab. But, Ms. Tolsen isn’t sure they are going to be able to get an appointment with Charter and they will be able to get to set up the church with Internet before we get there.
Solution: We are going to keep in contact with Ms. Tolsen via phone to keep up to date about the Internet situation.
5. Preserving the appearance of the church from excessive cords.
Solution: Running the ethernet cables through the ceiling.
6. Worries about overloading the electricity.
Solution: Powering all 6 computers at one time with the plan being that if it blows the circuit, we can flip the circuit and power one fewer computer.
