Problems and Solutions

We encountered several difficulties throughout the process, including:

Prior to going to site

1. All of the computers needed to have the correct video driver installed. We had a difficult time locating the right driver, which we eventually found through the Gateway website. We downloaded the video driver to a flash drive, but were then required to install the driver for that on each computer before we could download the video driver.
2. One of the computers did not have a NIC. We had to locate the correct driver and install the network card.
3. We had to upgrade the memory on several of the computers so that they could install Windows XP (which they hoped to do in the future). All computers needed to have at least 256 MB memory.

At the site

1. We discovered that a few of the monitors were not very good. Despite adjusting the color and brightness settings, the screens remained very dark. Although we we unable to fix the problem completely, we compensated by changing the colors on the background/desktop so that it was easier to read.
2. Although we had no difficulty in getting the Internet working, we did have some problems figuring out how to set up the printer network. After several phone calls with Martin, we finally were able to figure out how to have one computer share its printing. However, we still had to locate the correct driver for the printer on each computer.
3. Getting the network connected required that several of the cables be either run over doorways or across two rooms. Luckily, the pastor and his helpers were able to drill holes to connect all of the cables and attach one of the switches to the wall so that all the cables would reach.
