Problem: Uncooperative computer
Solution
1. Replaced hard drive.
2. Replaced hard drive again.
3. Disconnected the CD drive, still didn’t work.
4. Martin suggested disconnecting zip drive.
5. Problem fixed!
Problem: Two failing computers in East St. Louis
Solution
1. Identified problems with each computer (one had failed power supply, other had failed motherboard).
2. Swapped power supply from computer with bad motherboard in order to save at least one computer.
Problem: Different printer than we recommended
Solution
1. Realized we could still set up the printer.
2. Had Ron go to Office Depot and get print server.
Problem: Installing Foreign Print Server
Solution
1. Installed printer to one computer.
2. Installed print server drivers.
3. Installed both printer and print server drivers on all networked computers.
4. Opened printer settings and enabled networking.
Problem: Copyrighted software
Solution
1. Although we had originally intended to burn the programs to disk and install them on the computers, the end-user agreements prohibited the distribution of the software. Thus, we provided a red folderincluding a list of these programs, kid-friendly web sites and search engines, educational games, filtering software, and internet guides. We also bookmarked relevant URLs on the lab computers.
Problem: No internet connection
Solution
1. Attached all computers to the switch.
2. Connected Phoebus to switch.
