Implementation Plan
Overview
- Refurbish 10 computers in lab.
- Upgrade 11 computers from Win98 to WinXP (our 10 plus one already at our site)
- Install more memory on the pastor’s computer
- Connect all computers to the network
Our preparation involved
- Formatting and partitioning all hard drives
- Installing Windows 98, Windows Updates, and additional software on each computer.
- Testing all hardware (cd-rom drives, NIC, sound, floppy, etc.).
- Making sure storage size of hard drive is adequate for the upgrade to Win XP.
- Installing additional memory if necessary.
- Installing drivers for USB Flash drives and additional drivers.
- Testing and setting network connectivity by using ping and ipconfig.
- Testing software for making desired changes to settings.
- Making master software and drivers disks for on-site installations.
- Making ethernet cables for additional computers
- Gathering tools, additional memory cards, hard-drives and equipment for on-site set-up.
- Maintaining communication between our group and our site leader, Donna, through her frequent correspondence with Jennifer.
- Confirmed that WinXP licenses were purchased for the on-site upgrades.
After Arriving
- Moved out old computers and monitors and replaced them with our refurbished machines.
- Cleaned out desk space around each computer and cleaned the computer cases.
- Connected monitors, speakers, mice, and plugged in power to each computer and monitor.
- Plugged in each computer to the network hub to start the OS upgrades.
- Installed all software and configured the firewall on each computer.
- Configured the anti-virus software to get automatic updates and run full system scans every morning.
- Set Windows logins and passwords for each computer.
- Set password protected screensaver for the two computers in the small lab.
- Set Windows Updates to automatically download.
- Took pictures of final lab and as a group with our site coordinators
