Lab and time constraints

Hello, Ms. Covington.

I’m sorry that we’re e-mailing you so much, but we’re getting nervous about being able to complete everything on time for the computer lab. At this point, we have two weeks until Thanksgiving break (which lasts one full week) in which to work on the 8 computers we have for you. After Thanksgiving break, we will have one week until December 4th and 5th when we would like to deliver the computers to Mt. Joy. In order for the computers to be ready to set up at Mt. Joy we need to have operating systems installed with drivers, updates, security and anti-virus software, and word processing software (Microsoft Office or Open Office). All of these installations take time (between 30 minutes and many, many hours) for us to load onto each computer, and will need to be done here in Champaign. Because the three of us are taking other classes and working part-time jobs, we aren’t able to wait much longer to do this.

We would really like to know at what point you are in the process of purchasing the product licenses for the Microsoft XP operating systems and getting them to us because we are running out of time. Are you able to get them to us by Thursday, November 12? We’ll need to move forward in installing operating systems next Friday, and we may need to use a Linux operating system (because we have free and ready access to it) if we aren’t able to get the licenses. Is there anything we can do to help you in securing the Windows XP licenses? We really want you to have Microsoft XP for the lab, so please let us know how we can help.

I don’t think we ever really established that you were our primary contact for this project, but is there someone else that we should be talking to about this?

Please contact either of us by phone as soon as possible (anytime, even during the weekend), as we feel discussing this over the phone would be more effective than email.

We are working hard to provide Mt. Joy with everything you need to fulfill all your computer lab needs, we’re just under unfortunate time constraints. On a positive note, we have two computers running Microsoft XP, with drivers and updates loaded, and they’re running great!

Response

Thank you for your persistence and patience in this joint venture. We had a meeting on this past Saturday, of which funding was approved to purchase the software this week. I will go online and purchase the license and have the company forward the codes to you as you have requested. I apologize for the delay; however there are processes in place at our church and I have to follow the procedures that are in place which involve deacon boards and trustees that provide final approval of all purchases. I did everything that I could to place a rush on the process.

I appreciate all of your emails and I have shared them with the committee including Pastor Jackson and church officers to make them aware of the time issues. I will place the order this evening and contact you upon completion.

A few questions: Would you please confirm the type of computers that we are getting (i.e. Dell, etc.) and the additional wiring that is needed to ensure wireless internet in the lower level of the church.

Thank you for all of your efforts!

Arlene Covington
