Priorities for Technology

For both homes:  Want to get some training and support, figure out a way to draw residents into computer use, aside from a couple of dedicated users. Offers wireless internet though out but does not want residents to bring their own laptops. Would rather see residents using community computers. Residents and staff are both intimidated by computers, residents need basic introduction to computers. Would like to see residents able to used internet: picture viewing, email, google, facebook, games, watch softball games online. Possible memory collecting & recording project. Need for speakers or headphones.

Replace the old computer with a new one that is accessible for those with disabilities, and will work with a printer.  It will also be fun and inviting for seniors.  Providing games to satisfy all residents, especially the one resident who downloads stuff onto the computer.

Resources Organization Can Provide for Technology Implementation

  • There is wireless internet in both buildings
  • We hope to use the existing wireless card in the old computer.  Otherwise, we are getting them a new one.

Resources GSLIS Will Provide for Technology Implementation

  • If no wireless card from existing computer, then will provide a new wireless card.
  • Providing new computer.
  • Accessibility team is providing an accessibility station, mouse, and headset with microphone.  Accessibility team will also install software, etc. solutions on top of the software that we provide.
  • Will also provide fun senior-friendly software to encourage use of the computer.  This will include games.
  • Will provide some in-person training for N.H. staff as well as a binder of instructions, and an instruction file saved on the desktop of the new computer.
