On October 15th and 16th, the group took photographs of the Jones Park administration building and park grounds, digitized photographs and documents, assessed the wireless and wired networks, painted the bookshelf and frames, and prepared to create the web site. Mrs. Golliday prepared a packet of information for Kyle so that he has an idea of what pages and links to incorporate in the site. Our next goal is to reconvene and discuss the best type of network for the computers in the board room. Since the router is located in Mrs. Golliday's office, we could run Ethernet wires from her office to the board room along the ceiling, purchase a repeater for the board room, or use the wireless signal to create a wired network in the board room.

We wrote an Itinerary on October 12th for the Oct. 15/16th trip, ennumerating objectives and tasks to make the most of our time:

1. We need to speak with Mrs. Golliday about scheduling time to meet with 2-3 elderly community members to discuss the following:

a. How users will make use of the computer lab so we can determine what to incorporate on the order of reference materials, applications and Operating Systems.
b. What reading materials they would like to see in the reference library, and what materials they could possibly contribute from their own personal collections at home.
d. What operating systems/applications might our target audience find most intuitive/if any. With this knowledge, we'll know what instructional pamphlets to make.
e. What users will use computers for (i.e. searching medical terms, emailing, etc.) That way, we can determine what applications we need to include.
f. What computer skills they'd like to acquire, and suggestions on how we can meet their needs.
g. We'll need to discuss whether Is Linux a viable option as an OS for a primarily elderly population.

2. While in East. St. Louis, we aspire to:

a. Discuss funding for supplies with Mrs. Golliday and the Professor.
b. Brainstorm troubleshooting issues for whatever OS we'll use. We plan to create a pamphlet/how-to booklet on using the computers.
c. Asses the existing wired/wireless network.
d. Consider where their current router is and how their network is physically situated in relation to where we are considering the computer desks to be located.
e. Consider where power sources are located in relation to where we want to situate the computers.
f. Digitally mapping the Computer labs. (If we have internet access).
g. Possibly meeting with community members who would use this space.
h. Consider the feasibility of painting the bookshelf, picture frames, and coat rack without stripping the paint.
i. Research commonly needed materials used by the community elderly population.
