Zoom Text

A note to using this guide: zoom text uses a number of “hotkeys.” Hotkeys are several keys, such as a letter and a number or “shift” and “esc” that you press at the same time in order to make something happen. Hotkeys are indicated throughout this guide in capital letters. “AND” indicates that you press all the indicated keys at the same time.

1.0 Installing ZoomText:

When you insert zoom text CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer, the Senate program will start automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
If setup doesn’t start automatically:
1. Click on the Windows start button.
2. Select Run.
3. Select the Set Up Program and click “open.”
4. Click okay in the run dialog box

2.0 Installing zoom text in Windows Vista
If you do not have administrator privileges and you are installing zoom text on a Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system please contact your network administrator before proceeding with the installation. Because Zoom text has activation technology designed to eliminate unauthorized use the network administrator will have to install several system-level components.
Remember, to activate zoom text 9.1 you will need the serial number provided with your purchase copy. You can find the serial number on: the zoom text CD sleeve , on the product registration card, on top of the zoom text box, and on back of the zoom text users guide.
The installation of zoom text onto your Windows 7 computer has hardly been done for you. But, if you need to reinstall the text you will have to follow the installation process.
3.0 Starting zoom text:
You can find zoom text on your Windows 7 computer in one of two ways.
1. You can find zoom text on your Windows desktop by looking for the zoom text 9.1 icon.
2. Or, in the Windows start menu, choose programs and then select zoom text 9.1.
When you start zoom text your computer display will show a magnified view of your normal screen. As you move your mouse, type, navigate your applications, you will do so with a magnified view.
3.1 To exit zoom text:
In the file menu choose exit.
To make text smaller:
1. On the zoom text title bar, click on the minimize button.
2. while the zoom text user interfaces is active, press escape.
4.0 To Enable and Disabled Zoom text and simple Magnification.
4.1 To Restore Zoomtext:
1. Click on the zoom text 9.1 button in the taskbar.
2. Press the display user interface hotkey: CTRL + SHIFT + U.

4.2 To enable zoom text: press the zoom text hotkey: ALT + INSERT.
4.3 To disable zoom text: press ALT + DELETE.
4.4 Magnification level press:
INCREASE: ALT and PLUS (ON THE NUMBER PAD)
DECREASE: ALT and MINUS (ON THE NUMBER PAD)
5.0 Types of Windows:
Zoom text provides a room window type. Each of these Windows offers a unique way of viewing what is on the screen.
5.1 To switch between windows press CTRL+SHIFT+Z.
5.2 Full displays a magnified view of what appears on the entire screen.
5.3 Overlay displays a magnified view that can be sized and moved to any portion of the screen.
5.4 Lens moves the like the magnifying glass over the screen lens follows your mouse as you move and point it
5.5 Line moves up and down the screen like a ruler the line window automatically follows as you move the mouse pointer type text and navigate your programs
5.6 Docked at the screen and have displaying a magnifying view on one side and a normal view on the other it can be used on the top on the bottom or left and right.
6.0 To size and move the zoom window:
With the exception of full zoom, zoom text windows can be sized or moved to occupy different position on the screen.
1. On the magnifier toolbar choose type and then it adjust
With your mouse:
2. to size the window drag any handle
3. to move the window drag inside the window frame
4. to scroll the contents of the window hold down CTRL, and then drag inside the window frame
5. to exit the adjust tool, press ESC.
When you’re viewing the screen is magnified, sometimes it is not possible to see the whole screen at once. Freeze window allows you to monitor a selected area screen while you view and work in another.

7.0 To set up a freeze window:
1. set the zoom window types of full
2. in the magnifier toolbar select type freeze and new.
3. Move the mouse pointer until the area you want to freeze is scrolled into view
4. drag to select the create area
5. to size the window drag any handle
6. to move the window drag inside the window frame
7. to scroll the contents of the window hold down CRTL and drag inside the window frame
8. to accept a freeze tool right-click or press ESC
7.1 To enable and disable the freeze window:
On the magnifier toolbar choose type then freeze then enable or disable if you want to disable.
8.0 View Mode
8.1 View mode shows you the area of the screen that’s currently being magnified that also allows you to select a new area to zoom in on. When view mode is activated magnification turns off into view locator peers in the normal screen. I’m reading the view locator you can select a new area to zoom in on.
8.2 In the actions menu choose view mode when you do this magnification is temporarily turned off and the view locator appears. Move the view locator to the desired screen location click to zoom in on the new location at magnification will be restored with the selected screen area displayed.
9.0 Color enhancement
Color enhancement improves clarity of text and graphic providing easier viewing and reduced eyestrain. Many kinds of visual impairments benefit from changes of text and backgrounds colors. In zoom text you can configure the color settings that are right for you.
9.1 By selecting color and then choosing scheme in the magnifier toolbar you can select a preset color scheme.
9.2 You can also configure your own custom color settings in the magnifier menu by choosing color enhancement, select custom and adjust the settings as desired. When you are through, click the OK button.
9.3 If you want to turn off or to turn back on any color changes you have made press CTRL AND SHIFT AND C.
10.0 Pointer and cursor enhancement:
On the screen the arrow that you move your mouse is called a pointer. It sometimes helps to magnifying the arrow to make the position of your mouse more visible on the screen.
10.1 You can choose a preset pointer scheme on the magnifier toolbar by selecting pointer then scheme. You should be shown several pointer schemes to choose from.
10.2 You can also configure your pointer setting in a magnifying menu by choosing pointer enhancements selecting custom and adjusting the setting as desired. Make sure to hit the okay button to save your adjustments.
10.3 You can also turn off and on pointer enhancements by pressing CTRL AND SHIFT AND P.
10.4 When writing the pointer becomes a cursor. Like pointer enhancements, cursor enhancement makes it easy to locate where your mouse is on the screen. From the magnifier toolbar you can select cursor and then scheme to pick a preset cursor scheme.
10.5 To configure your own custom cursor setting in the magnifier menu choose cursor enhancement select custom and adjust the settings. Remember to hit the okay button to save your custom setting.
10.6 If you want to turn your cursor enhancement on or off you can always press CTRL AND SHIFT AND R.
11.0 Focus Enhancement:
When you use menus dialogue toolbars and other application control focus enhancement makes it easy to locate and follow.
11.1 To set a preset focus scheme from the magnifier toolbar select focus then scheme and the desired focus scheme.
11.2 You can always configure custom settings by going to the magnifier toolbar shooting focus enhancement selecting custom and adjusting the settings. Remember to press the okay button before exiting to save your custom enhancement.
11.3 You can turn focus enhancement on it all using the focus enhancements on or off by pressing CTRL AND SHIFT AND O.
12.0 Font Enhancement:
With many screen magnifiers fonts are degraded in magnified view making text difficult to read. Ease problems with zoom text’s xfont tax enhancement technology.
12.1 To switch on enhancement type press CTRL AND SHIFT AND F. repeated presses of the hot key cycles through re-enhancement types xfont, standard and none. Choose the font right for you.
12.2 To configure on enhancement options from the magnifier menu choose font enhancement and adjust.
12.0 Desktop finder
Desktop finder helps you find and open programs and document located in the Windows desktop environment such as the quick launch bar the computer’s control panel in the system tray. When you use desktop finder a dialog box displays a list of items located in the desktop environment is list can be searched allowing you to quickly locate your desired item desktop finder’s actions allow you to view the item you have selected.
12.1 To use desktop finder from your magnifier toolbar select desktop. After you select desktop to desktop finder dialog box will appear.
12.2 In the dialog box filter and sort the desktop items list by selecting the desired options under show these items or sort items by.
12.3 To narrow the search you can type in the information you are searching for such as a file anime in the search for combo box. You can also select recent entry or example a recently save document from the combo box list.
12.4 Once you’ve found what you’re looking for you can select the desired item in the desktop items list and click open to open the document you have selected. If you have selected a program you can also click properties to view the program you have selected.
13.0 Web finder
You can use zoom text to help you find in control but only on Internet Explorer or Firefox.
13.1 To open Web finder from the magnifier toolbar Web and the Web finder dialog box will appear. In the dialog box or Web finder you will find webpage items under show these items and sort these items by.
13.2 You can narrow your search by typing what you’re looking for into the search combo box. For example if you want to get to the New York Times you can type New York Times or www.nytimes.com into the search combo box.
13.3 Once you’ve found what you’re looking for click the execute link button to open the website you can click the read button to begin reading the website.
14.0 Text finder
Text finder locates words or phrases within the text on the screen after entering the text you are looking for the text finder highlights and read each found occurrence of the text or the entire line that contains the text.
14.1 You can use text finder from the magnifier toolbar by selecting text. When you have selected text the text finder dialog box appears. In the search for box you can type the word you want to search for. Click the search button. To navigate to the next or previous occurrence of the search text is the text finder toolbar. You can ask it to text finder by right clicking your mouse or pressing ESC.
14.2 When you’re using text finder the text finder toolbar will appear above the text you have searched for. The toolbar will help you navigate the occurrences of the search text. Please refer to page 30 of you zoom text 9.1 quick reference guide for explanation of the icons found in the text finder toolbar
15.0 Reader Toolbar
Zoom text magnifies text they can also read them to you. The reader toolbar gives you quick access to these features.
16.0 Turning speech on and off
16.1 On the reader toolbar select speech and then enable (or disable if you want to turn the reading function off)
16.2 You can use the hot key ALT AND SHIFT AND S to turn the reading function of zoom text on an all.
16.3 Speech-rate allows you to control how fast zoom text reads the text to you.
16.4 On the reader toolbar you can adjust how fast zoom text will speak to you in the raid box.
16.5 You can also use hotkeys.
INCREAST RATE: CTRL AND (NUMBER PAD) PLUS
DECREASE RATE: CTRL AND (NUMBER PAD) MINUS
17.0 Synthesizer Settings:
You can adjust and customize the voice that zoom text use is to speak to you. You can choose a male or female voice as well as adjust their speaking rate pitch or volume.
17.1 To adjust and customize zoom text voice from the reader menu choose synthesizer. Make sure the enables speech output box is checked. Choose synthesizer and voice to adjust the rate pitch or volume.
17.2 To preview your new settings type text into the sample text edit box and click the sample. If you like what you hear press okay.
18.0 Echo typing
Echo typing allows you to hear the words that you type. You can choose to have individual keys such as a to z order punctuation like periods and commas spoken as you type them or you can choose to have a whole words spoken as you type by enabling Echo type.
18.1 From the reader toolbar click typing and then select the typing Echo mode. You will also see a toolbar icon with the letter T. on it. This is the typing icon.
18.2 To just typing Echo options from the reader menu choose typing Echo and adjust your settings as desired. Remember to press okay to save your settings.
19.0 Mouse Echo
Zoom text can automatically read any text beneath your pointer. As you move your pointer across the screen zoom text and read what is on the screen.
19.1 From the reader toolbar click the mouse icon and then select the desired mouse Echo mode. To adjust these options from the reader toolbar choose mouse Echo and adjust the options as desired. Press okay.
20.0 AppReader
AppReader will read your documents webpages and e-mail. You can automatically read through an entire document or manually select word line sentence or paragraph. As zoom text reads each spoken word will be highlighted.
20.1 To start and operate open the document, webpage or e-mail you wish to read. You can then use the AppReader hotkey ATL AND SHIFT AND A.
20.2 To start or stop reading press Enter or click the mouse.
20.3 To exit press ESC.
20.4 You can adjust the reader settings from the reader menu choose AppReader and adjust as desired.
21.0 DocReader:
DocReader reads documents, Webpages and e-mail in an environment that is re-formatted for easier viewing. Text is presented line by line with your choice of font colors were highlighting a magnification level.
21.1 To start open the document, webpage, or email you w wish to read.
21.2 Press the DocReader hotkey: ALT AND SHIFT AND D.
21.3 To start OR STOP reading click play or press enter.
21.4 To exit press ESC.
21.5 The DocReader toolbar provides controls for operating DocReader and assessing settings that modify the appearance of text and highlighting. Some of the icons and commands that you will see are:
Read/pause: starts and stops reading at the highlighted word
Rate : control how fast DocReader speaks
Power: to the magnification level ticker displays a single line of text that scrolls horizontally
Proctor: displays multiple wrapped lines of text to scroll vertically settings opens the reading dialog box to change the settings
Speech: opens his speech dialog box to change the speech settings
21.6 Exit :exits DocReader and activates the source application
22.0 Reading zones
Reading Zones allow you to see here selected locations in an application window. You can create up to 10 zones per application. As you open and switch between applications is known for the active application are automatically loaded and ready for use. 23.0 SpeakIt Tool
SpeakIt Tool allows you to read selected areas of screen by clicking or dragging with the mouse. Any text that is visible on the screen can be spoken even if it is outside the active program. Please note that images cannot be spoken.
23.1 To use the SpeakIt Tool press the hotkey: ALT AND SHIFT AND I
23.2 Speak a single word click on were speak a block of text drag to highlight the text to exit press ESC.
24.0 Configuration Files

Text Reading Commands
Lets you navigate and read while creating and editing documents. The cursor moves when and how you command it. Zoom text will speak what the cursor lands on. Please note that “Numlock” must be turned off when using these commands.

Configuration Files
Zoomtext settings can be saved and resorted using configuration files. Configuration files permentaly save the choices you have made such as screen enhancements, reading options, and hotkeys.
To save settings to the configuration files from the File menu, choose Save Configuration and then type your special configuration name in the file name box and click ok.
To load your settings when you come back to the accessibility computer, open the file menu again, choose open configuration and highlight the file with the special name you have chosen. Then click open and your settings will appear.
Application Settings
For each Zoom Text configuration you can define unique settings for each application that you use. For example, Zoomtext can display your web browser at one magnification level and your word processor at another. When these applications become active, their “application settings’ are automatically restored. Applications for which settings have not been defined are displayed and spoken according to the default settings of the configuration file.
To Define and save application settings open the application for which you want to define settings, switch to Zoomtext and select the settings you wish t use with that application. Then, in the File menu, Choose Save Applications Settings. Then click the “yes” button to save application settings.
To disable or delete application settings from the file menu choose Manage Application Settings and uncheck the desired applications.
To delete application settings, select the desired application, then select Delete. Then click ok.
