Word Processing/Office Suite
OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) = Free near-equivalent of Microsoft Office. Includes a word processor called “Writer” (like Microsoft Word), a spreadsheet called “Calc” (like Microsoft Excel), a presentation program called “Impress” (similar to Microsoft Powerpoint), a database program called “Base” (similar to Microsoft Access), a math tool called “Math” (like Microsoft Equation Editor), and a vector graphics editor called “Draw” (like Corel Draw.)

Adobe Reader = Allows you to view and print PDF files.
WinPDF = Allows you to create PDF documents and convert documents into PDFs.
Gimp = GNU Image Manipulation Program. It’s a graphics editor. You can process digital graphics and photographs with it. Much like Adobe Photoshop.
Quicktime = a multimedia framework
RealPlayer = a media player
Shockwave = a media player
Flash = another media player
iTunes = yet another media player
Freezip = Zips and unzips software.
Jave JRE = Required to run Java applications.
Educational
GeoGebra = Interactive geometry software. You can graph points, lines, vectors, segments, etc. by clicking on a graph. It can also graph equations that you give it.
Bruce’s Unusual Typing Wizard = Learn to type! Includes lessons, practice, and gameplay. Keep track of your typing stats, too: your words per minute and performance with different letters and characters.
Tux Type = Improve your typing skills with the help of a friendly penguin. 2 games to choose from. For younger children.
Stellarium = A planetarium. Allows you to see a virtual sky of stars in real time (over 600,000 of them!) See shooting stars, zoom in on stars, or use telescope mode.
