Problems and Solutions
Problem: NetGear NIC not recognized.
Solution: Successfully identified card and located drivers on NetGear website.
Problem: Onboard audio controller not recognized.
Solution: Identified motherboard. Located allegedly appropriate drivers, which failed to work. Added sound cards to computers where possible.
Problem: Modem not recognized in computer J? Computer fails to boot.
Solution: Error is “hardware manager found an error”. Says press F1 to continue booting. Computer boots successfully. Error may be related to computer attempting to boot from NIC (http://pcclub.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=11&threadid=10502 (web site no longer active)Â suggests error PXE-61 is this, in which case it may be resolved by removing NIC from boot menu in BIOS… Although I’m not sure why BIOS would be trying to do that given that the computers previously did not have NICs… Still, let’s check the boot order.)
Solution part 2: Modem successfully installed and functional in computer E.
Problem: Network not working.
Solution: Checked Comodo Firewall activity logs, discovered firewall settings were blocking network traffic. Confirmed this by dropping firewall on select computers (site did not have internet access at this time) and pinging between networked computers successfully. Created new firewall rules to allow our LAN traffic using wizard.
Problem: Received error message while connecting to shared printers that the limit on connections to computer O (sharing Laserjet) had been reached, while two computers remained to be connected.
Solution: Confirmed that no such error message occurred when all computers were connected to computer P (sharing all-in-one Officejet). Restarted computer O, after which we were able to connect the remaining computers (and all other computers were still connected).
Problem: Checked to be certain shared printers were visible on all log-ins. Discovered they were not.
Solution: Connected to shared printers under standard and siteadmin log-ins as well as pnetadmin login.
