Plan of Execution

The Steps the Organization Needs to Accomplish Prior to Computer Delivery

+To investigate Internet options (satellite and Verizon wireless service were discussed) and have service ready to go

+To acquire a printer/printers (seemed like Geraldine would be happy with a black & white laser printer; there was some talk of getting an all-in-one inkjet as well to add color printing, scanning, faxing capabilities) and have it delivered to campus so it can be tested with the rest of the network.

+To find appropriate furniture for the lab (tables and chairs)

+To acquire surge protectors/power strips (number to be determined)

The Steps the Project Team Needs to Accomplish Prior to Computer Delivery

+To find 15 (or as close to 15 as possible) computers and monitors that are high-quality and attractive, doing best to select computers/monitors that are the same

+To prepare computers by installing an operating system, ensuring integrity of components (hard drive, RAM, network interface card, etc.) through diagnosis and testing, and installing a software package appropriate to DFCC’s needs (chief concerns are reading, typing, and computer skills programs, but other programs for math, history, grammar, etc. will be installed, as well, to facilitate a variety of tutoring possibilities)

+To arrange lab’s architecture, determining position of computers, printer/s, and cables (if necessary), communicating with DFCC during the process, being sure that architecture reflects their vision for the lab

+To prepare cables for the lab according to the network’s architecture

+To test entire network in the Prairienet workshop and to ensure it is running seamlessly

Potential Risks That Might Hinder Fully Accomplishing the Plan

+Imperative that computers and monitors be attractive and first-rate! (to the organization, given how much they value excellence, it seems that no lab would be preferable to a second-rate lab)
