The class is good balance of theory and practice. The immediate hands-on lab session after lecture is well designed. It not only consolidate the knowledge that we learned in class but also provide us practical experiences with technology.

Technology

• Learning technology systems and development in information age
• Choosing and Upgrading computer hardware, updating computer software
• Getting familiar with different operating systems and upgrading OS, such as Windows 98, Windows XP, Vista
• Learning network system and learn how to design a working network environment
• Developing Computer and networking troubleshooting skills

Community service

The course provides us a great opportunity to learn to meet the needs of community by using our resources and ability. It’s very good experiences for us to work with community and learn community services. We got the chance to see how community services are planned, implemented by our organizers. Besides, we learn how to conduct community service by participating. We learn the importance of serving the community, especially the disadvantaged communities. It’s the persistence and perseverance of people that help the disadvantaged community improve in some sense.

Problem solving skills

During the course, problem solving skills are involved when we encounter knowledge that is new to us in dealing with problems arisen in our hands-on experiences and in our projects. We need to solve all kinds of problems related to technology, especially during troubleshooting, we have to understand problems in detail, identify causes of problems, figure out the ways to solve problems and analyze the lessons learned. Gradually, we improve problem solving skills

Cooperation is very important for us to accomplish group work. During the project, we learn how to cooperate with others to achieve the same goal
