History of Organization

Community Concepts established their 501(c)3 Non-Profit status in 1998. The organization works with teens ages 14-18 to promote community building and peer education through the Arts. The teens learn conflict resolution, problem solving, skill building, and gain leadership skills by participating in live stage productions, televised public service announcements, and technology classes. Approximately 5000 community members have been served since the program started in 1998. The skills the teens learn at Community Concepts are transferable to post secondary education and workplace settings.

Summary of Organization’s Vision, Mission, and Goals

Community Concepts’ mission is to provide area youth and their families with a venue for receiving technical and skill-based training in the area of media, computer literacy and Theatre, while providing constructive entertainment. Skills learned are used to produce service announcements, video taping performances, and the how-too of stage productions.

Community Concepts strives to use available resources to support economic development in the East St. Louis community through job creation in the Village Theatre and media department.

The goal is to help youth and families build and develop self-esteem while maintaining a high standard of quality throughout each activity.

Organization’s Priorities for Implementation of Technology

Community Concepts and The Village Theatre use video editing technology for live performances and public service announcements. They require video editing software, computers with appropriate storage, teaching tools to help prepare the teens for careers in multimedia.
