Overview of Organization
The Centreville Library is a small library housed within the Callie Boyd Community Center. It serves patrons of a variety of ages within the community. The computers appear to get a fair amount of use from the community members; for many of them this may be their only access to computers and the internet. According to head librarian Valerie Hych, many of the patrons may have limited reading comprehension and other educational deficiencies, which would be excellent areas to focus on with regards to software loaded on the computers.
History of Organization
The library has been around for eleven years. It serves a community of roughly 5,600 people with programs for children through senior citizens.
The Centreville Library was originally housed in the Centreville City Hall, and moved to its current location within the Callie Boyd Center in 1996. There is a history of conflict and rapid turnover at the staff and board levels, leading to disorganization. In the past there have been two librarians employed by the library, but Valerie Hych is currently the only employee and has been working since July 2007. The library’s Board of Directors seats nine members, but it has never filled all nine seats. A new Board of Directors has been in place since April 2008.
Summary of Organization’s Vision, Mission, and Goals
