Plan of Execution

The Steps the Organization Needs to Accomplish Prior to Computer Delivery

Articulate its goals and needs in terms of what the computer lab should offer to the community; evaluate the Linux distributions with regard to the patron’s needs and share this information with the GSLIS project team.

The Steps the Project Team Needs to Accomplish Prior to Computer Delivery

Evaluate and inventory each of the machines in the computer lab; discuss with the head librarian her goals and needs in terms of what she would like to accomplish with the computer lab; see what resources are available in terms of hardware (RAM, hard drives, cables) and software and see how we can update the computers with what we have; develop and test software implementation skills/plan; continue to develop training program for Valerie, Joseph, and community members.

Potential Risks That Might Hinder Fully Accomplishing the Plan

The network is controlled by a third party. Valerie needs more computer training than can be provided in two weekends and so will continue to be dependent on the volunteer time available to Joseph. Installation of Ubuntu packages on Puppy systems may be more challenging than expected. Prairienet may or may not have RDRAM available for upgrades to Dell machines. As with any computer network open to the public, security and maintenance are ongoing concerns.
