Problems and Solutions
Problem
All our computers had cd-roms, but not all had DVD-roms, necessary for windows update cds that came with the XP installation.
Solution
Downloaded updates via the internet.
Problem
Four of our hard drives were significantly smaller than the software we needed to install.
Solution
Installed larger hard drives on these four computers, re-installed the operating system.
Problem
Print server purchased (only print server of its kind in the C-U area) defective.
Solution
Pray. solution to come.
Problem
8-port switch at site is defective
Solution
Used two 4-port printer servers (which were defective as printer servers but still worked great as switches!) plus two extra long ethernet cables and managed to get all 8 computers plugged in via the main hub in the other room
Problem
Missing power chords and mice
Solution
Miracle Deliverance had extras!
Problem
Could not network the old Xerox printer with the computers
Solution
Somehow the HP printer in the other room *did* show up on our network so we ran with it!
Problem
One computer suddenly died on site, appears to be a power problem
Solution
We brought it home and the computer lab has a lucky number of computers now – 7 (I’m thinking we might have used a power cable that was either not compatible with the CPU or was non-functional (and detrimentalas a power cord. Either of those to option probably acted to damage the power supply.)
