Bond Avenue Missionary Baptist Church
4901 Bond Avenue
Alorton, IL 62207
History of Organization:
The Bond Avenue Missionary Baptist Church was organized in September of 1976. Rev. W. Wilson took charge of the service and brought forth the foundation of the church. The early establishment of the church was brought forth through Rev. Luther Ford, Sr, Sis. Mary L. Ford, and Bro. Mitchel A. Ford. During that time, Rev. Luther Ford, Sr. was elected as the Pastor of the church.
During the servitude of Rev. L. E. Ford, Sr. as Pastor, the church had an increase in membership to 105 active members. The original building of the Bond Avenue Missionary Baptist Church was an old U.S. Post Office building, which was located at 3901 Bond Avenue in Alorton, IL. However, after a few years the highway department bought the building. On May 10, 1980, the church relocated to the Narzerene Church Building which is located at 4901 Bond Avenue. With the help of Pastor L.E. Ford and various church members, the building was repaired for use as the new Bond Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.
On September 30, 1986 a major fire destroyed the sanctuary and damaged most of the cafeteria and classrooms. However, the church community did not lose faith or hope as they rebuilt the building in order to continue service at this location. On October 16, 1988, the church lost a great leader with the passing of Rev. W. Wilson. The next year on February 24, 1989, Rev. Mitchel A. Ford, Sr. was elected as the new pastor.
