Recipes for July . July is hot and humid and nothing tastes better than ice cream, so this month we will feature ice cream recipes. The first is an older version of a Banana Split Dessert that came from my MIL many years ago and the second is the newer and easier version served by Becky H. at a recent gathering enjoy!
2-3 bananas
½ gal. Neopolitan ice cream
1 C. chopped nuts
1 C. chocolate chips
Graham cracker crumbs
½ C. butter
2 C. powdered sugar
1 ½ c. evaporated milk
Kool Whip
1 t. vanilla
Cover the bottom of a 11 X 15 pan with graham cracker crumbs. Slice and layer bananas over crust. Slice ice cream ½ think and place over bananas. Sprinkle with nuts and freeze until firm. Melt butter and chocolate chips. Add powdered sugar and evaporated milk. Cook until thickened and smooth, stirring constantly. Add vanilla and cool well. Pour over frozen bottom layers and freeze again. Top with Kool Whip and additional crumbs. Keep in the freezer. Set out 10 minutes before serving to soften.
Banana Split (2007 version)
Layer in either pie pans or a 9 X 13 pan:
Oreo Cookies, crushed
Fudge Sauce (any brand)
Sliced bananas
More Fudge Sauce
Nuts (peanuts or pecans)
Scoops of Neapolitan Ice Cream
More Fudge Sauce
Kool Whip
Freeze until firm. Set out a few minutes before serving.
