Becoming a member of the Prairie State Orchid Society is easy and very, very inexpensive. Cost of membership is only $15 per person.

     Among the many benefits of membership is the knowledge to be gained from attending the monthly meetings, not to mention the fellowship of other orchid lovers.

     Other membership benefits include a monthly newsletter about activities of the Prairie State Orchid Society and information about nearby shows, such as those in St. Louis and Chicago.

     There are frequent raffles of orchids at meetings (so you can add to your orchid collection) and programs are informative with a question and answer session to help you get your orchids to blooming.

     Other fun activities include the Triple Crown Contest in which members receive seedling orchids and the first to get their orchids to bloom win cash prizes. There are also group trips such as this fall's trip to Indiana to visit (and shop at) Hilltop Orchids.

     The annual show in February at Washington Park Botanical Garden is always fun and members are encouraged to show orchids in bloom.

     The December meeting is a carry-in dinner and each member receives a free orchid, worth even more than the price of the annual dues.

     So come to our next meeting. (Check out the calendar.) You'll have a good time and meet some great people. And you might go home with another orchid, or if this is your first ever encounter with orchids, you'll begin to catch on to why we enjoy them so much.
