The
chickens and some turkeys are raised in Sallatin-style mobile pens
on pasture. Plastic sheeting provides a wind break to protect the
birds from chilling winds that can occur in early spring. During
the day, the smaller panels of the pens are opened to allow the
birds to warm themselves in the sunshine. Since this photo was taken,
the Moore's youngest son, Aaron, figured out a way to redesign the
pens, by adding a reinforcing bar and wheels, so that they can be
moved with a garden tractor. Though this reduces the amount of manual
labor, the birds must still be moved to fresh pasture twice a day.
