Destination and living conditions:

Participants will be living and doing construction in a working class neighborhood of San Miguel on the island of Cozumel. Cozumel is a 45 minute ferry ride off the Yucatan Coast. It is a place of both great beauty and need. Living conditions will be simple. Participants will be staying in Eben-Ezer Presbyterian Church and will be sleeping in hammocks in the education wing that Intercambio helped construct on previous projects. Meals will be prepared by Maya cooks. Participants will experience daily life in a developing nation.

Construction: Intercambio has been asked to replace the roof of a church that was damaged by hurricane Wilma and the rains that followed. Participants will be doing concrete construction under the direction of a skilled Maya foreman.
No previous construction experience is required.

Trip Costs:

The fee of $1,175.00 includes round-trip airfare from Indianapolis, lodging, food (some exceptions), a handmade hammock to use and take home, and transportation in Mexico. Due to the rising fuel costs, the airfare accounts for over 40% of the registration fee. (This fee may be altered if airfares increase.)
