Champaign-Urbana Herb Society

Next Meeting:

The June 4th meeting will begin at 6:30 at the pavilion near the Herb Garden at Meadowbrook Park (Race Street entrance). We will have a potluck and tour of the Herb Garden. Maggie Dougherty-Roberts will present vervain as Herb of the Month.

The Champaign-Urbana Herb Society was organized in October 1975 by a handful of gardening enthusiasts interested in learning more about growing and using herbs out on the Illinois prairies. We meet at monthly with programs on herbal topics, and has developed an herb garden open to the public at Meadowbrook Park. In May, we hold a popular giant plant sale.

We are affiliated with the Urbana Park District and meet on the first Wednesday of the month, where we enjoy a monthly program and herbal refreshments prepared by members. The meeting place will be posted here each month.

We also organize a Sunday afternoon series of informal garden walks which provide members and friends with an opportunity to see a variety of herb, perennial, and pond gardens at homes in the Champaign-Urbana area.

The Herb Society is open to anyone interested in finding out more about herbs, herbal lore, culinary and medicinal uses of herbs. Dues are $15.00 a year. Most members discover rather quickly that they get their dues back in plants from other members who often bring extra plants, cuttings, or divisions of perennials to the meetings. Members also receive our Newsletter - Sprigs, and can attend workshops and tours.

The CU Herb Society does not endorse any claims regarding medicinal or nutritional uses of herbs.
