Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County and ReStore is a locally run affiliate of
Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with qualified people in need to build simple, decent, affordable housing. (See our Flickr photostream here and a video on YouTube.)
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
Our affiliate's home improvement ReStore offers 20,000 square feet of new and gently used furniture, household goods, electronics, appliances and building materials. All items are donated by individuals, families, and local businesses and sold to the public at discounted prices. All proceeds go to local Habitat for Humanity home building projects in Champaign County, so when you shop or donate to the ReStore you also help build a new home for a local family in need.
