News: Green Family builds in partnership with area Methodist Churches (2003) |

1202 Beslin Street, Urbana. See images on Flickr. The Greens The Green family is Habitat for Humanity of Champaign and Piatt counties’ newest homeowner. Their house was built in partnership with the United Methodist churches in the Champaign-Urbana area. Home construction began in May and Sonya Green and her three sons – Mark, Quintin, and Isiah – moved into their new house in October.
Sonya works as an administrative assistant in the Pediatric Department at Carle Clinic. Born and raised in Urbana, she now lives across from King School, which she attended as a child. Mark, 13, enjoys basketball, football, and electronic games, and also sings in the school choir. Quintin, 11, attends Urbana Middle School and, like his big brother, also enjoys basketball and electronic games. Quintin also enjoys reading. Isiah, the youngest at 6, attends Prairie School, enjoys all outdoor activities and playing with his brothers.
Sonya, who was unable to buy a house without Habitat’s help, says the best part of having a Habitat house is knowing it is hers. Not only is her new neighborhood familiar from her childhood, she also now lives near her grandmother. Because Sonya had such a wonderful experience working on her house, she is determined to pass on the value of volunteer work she gained to her three children. The home build was truly a family affair as Sonya’s sister, brother and mother all lent a hand. |
