Prairie Propagation Garden

County: Champaign
Ownership: Grand Prairie Friends
Protection: August 2000
Size: 1.7 Acres

This 1.7 acre tract of land was generously donated to GPF in the summer of 2000 by Mrs. Freida Ems. It is located northeast of St Joseph, adjacent to the south side of Interstate 74 and directly east of 2500 E Road. The site is currently dominated by typical non-native roadside plant species such as kentucky bluegrass, crown vetch, and smooth brome, but our future plan for the site is to plant a garden to propagate the seeds of native prairie and savanna plant species that are difficult to collect or are rare in the wild.
