Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

The EOC is the nerve center of all EMA activation's.  The EOC is typically staffed by administration and communications personnel.  Together, these staff members work with field personnel of EMA and other emergency response agencies in response to emergencies.

During severe weather watches, the EOC staff is responsible for monitoring the weather radar and the National Weather Service weather wire.  EOC Staff disseminates this information to EMA storm spotters, amateur radio storm spotters and other public safety agencies.  One of the most valuable sources of weather warning information is the National Warning Alert System (NaWAS).   This closed circuit telephone loop connecting state, federal and local government offices as well as military and emergency service agencies provides immediate communications with the weather services offices.

Many of the weather items monitored by the EOC area available on the Weather Sources & Information page.
