Purpose
of the Cosmopolitan Club
The oldest international organization on the University of Illinois
campus, the
Cosmopolitan Club has been serving the needs of American and
international students since 1907. The purpose of the
Cosmopolitan Club is to cultivate social and intellectual
relationships among persons of different nations through a
variety of activities and services, all of which are open to all
students and staff of the university and their guests.
The
Cosmopolitan Club provides a strong, unique link between the
university and community. Over the years, the Club has continued
to stand for building bridges among persons of various
nationalities, races, cultures, and religions. Members' interest
in sharing their cultures has contributed to the Cosmopolitan
Club's success.
Club activities include ethnic dinners,
international coffee hours, parties, and various excursions to
cultural and social events and local attractions. These programs
offer opportunities for Americans and those from other countries
to share experiences and exchange ideas. In addition, and of
prime importance, the house at 307 East John Street serves as a
"home away from home" and as an international meeting place very
close to campus.
Membership fees provide the on-going
support for Club activities; members receive our calendar of
events, Cosmo
Connections, and a
warm welcome at all Cosmo gatherings. You are invited to join the
Cosmopolitan Club, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charitable
organization supported by volunteers dedicated to the principles
and values exemplified by our club motto:
Above all nations is humanity
