WELCOME TO CIMIC-L
------------------

Welcome to the CIMIC-L mailing list. Please retain a copy of this message
for future reference.

CIMIC-L is a private electronic forum sponsored by the Central Illinois
Mosque and Islamic Center (CIMIC) for dissemination of announcements from
CIMIC and other news of direct relevance to the Muslim community in the
East Central Illinois area. CIMIC-L is administered by a committee of
CIMIC members appointed by the CIMIC Board of Directors.


SCOPE OF THIS LIST
------------------

Suitable items for posting to CIMIC-L include:

1) announcements of upcoming events, minutes of meetings, policy
   clarifications, and the like from the CIMIC Board of Directors 
   or other official organs of CIMIC;

2) similar items from other local Muslim organizations;

3) news of events likely to be of interest to area Muslims;

4) action alerts from organizations working on issues likely to be of concern
   to members of the local Muslim community;

5) pointers to other resources likely to be useful to area Muslims.

Please note that CIMIC-L is not a forum for general discussion of Islam or
Muslim affairs. All contributions to CIMIC-L should be of *direct*
relevance to the Muslim community in the East Central Illinois area.
Also note that private conversations between individual list subscribers
should be conducted by personal e-mail rather than on the list.


MEMBERSHIP
----------

Subscription to CIMIC-L is open to any CIMIC member who is willing to abide
by the regulations and accepted practices of this list. Subscription
requests from persons other than CIMIC members may be considered on a
case-by-case basis.

CIMIC-L subscribers are expected to observe Islamic manners; accepted
Internet conventions; CIMIC and Prairienet regulations; and relevant local,
state, and national laws at all times in their usage of the list. In
particular, use of indecent language, backbiting, ad-hominem attacks,
attempts to create distrust and dissension within the local Muslim
community, and consistent posting of items that are outside the scope of
the list or that otherwise disrupt proper functioning of the list will not
be tolerated. Anyone who deliberately violates the standards of the list
will be warned by the list administration and may be removed from the list
for any further violation. Removal from CIMIC-L may be appealed to the
CIMIC Board of Directors.


HOW TO USE THIS LIST
--------------------

To subscribe to CIMIC-L send the command "SUB CIMIC-L " (without
the quotation marks and with your name in place of the  field)
to the address listproc@prairienet.org. 

You can also submit the subscribe/unsubscribe commands using the online 
form on the CIMIC web page at http://www.prairienet.org/cimic/

Once your subscription has been confirmed, you can post e-mail to the list
by sending it to the address cimic-l@prairienet.org. Any message you send
to this address will be distributed to all current CIMIC-L subscribers.

If at any time while you are a CIMIC-L subscriber you wish temporarily to
discontinue receipt of messages from the list, send the command "SET
CIMIC-L MAIL POSTPONE" (without the quotation marks) to the address
listproc@prairienet.org. When you are again ready to begin receiving
messages from the list, send the command "SET CIMIC-L MAIL ACK" (without
the quotation marks) to the same address.

If you no longer wish to be a CIMIC-L subscriber, send the command "SIGNOFF
CIMIC-L" (without the quotation marks) to the address
listproc@prairienet.org.

You can get a detailed explanation of these and other list commands by
sending the message "HELP" (without the quotation marks) to the address
listproc@prairienet.org. For other administrative help send e-mail to the
address cimic-l-request@prairienet.org.
