Instructions for the dances at the CIECD Christmas Ball, December 15, 2007

The instructions given here are meant as an aide memoire to help experienced dancers familiarize themselves with the dances we will be doing. They will probably be inadaquate to get you dancing if you have not done country dancing before. However you need not have these dances memorized as all dances will be taught at the Ball.

Auretti's Dutch Skipper

A1

1's lead down through 2's and cast back to place (1-4),
1's two hand turn (5-8).

A2

2's lead up through 1's and cast back to place (1-4),
2's two hand turn (5-8).

B1

1st corners two hand turn (1-4),
2nd corners two hand turn (5-8).

B2

All face partners, take hands along the side, and set twice (1-4),
3 changes of rights and lefts, right to partner to start (5-8).

Barbarini's Tambourine

A1

1st corners figure 8 to change places (1-8) (Cast left around neighbor, pass left shoulders in the center and cast right around partner to corner's place.)

A2

2nd corners do the same to change places, casting right and passing right shoulders in the center (1-8)

B1

All fall back 3 steps (1-2),
Come forward and pass through (3-4),
Back to back with neighbor (5-8),
Back to back with partner (9-12)

B2

Rights and lefts, 4 changes, with hands (1-8),

The Comical Fellow

A1

Gent 1 set forward to Lady 2 (1-2) and fall back to place (3-4),

1's pass partners by the right shoulder and turn their 1st corners by the right (1-4),
1's pass again by the right shoulders, loop to their 2nd corners and turn these corners by the right (5-8)

1's pass right shoulders as they return to place, all face out on on own sides, all lead out a double and fall back to place (1-4),
1's cast to the bottom of the set, while the 2's turn two hands and the 3's lead up to 2nd place (5-8)

Two Cousins

Double circle, gents with backs to middle of circle, ladies with backs to the wall

Cousin's siding: Partners Sharp siding 1/4 (1); turn left halfway round so that right shoulders meet (2) gents are facing in, ladies facing out; gypsy right shoulder 3/4 CW to partner's original place (3-4),
Balance forward and back (5-6), turn single (7-8)

Repeat A1 back to place (1-8)

B1

All face CW, join inside hands with partner, dance around the circle (1-3), turn toward partner halfway round to face CCW (4),
