Back to Urbana

Sleeping in air conditioning was good.

After all of that, it is hard to find a lot to say about our trip home. Since we had a 12:30 flight from Ft. Lauderdale, we had to leave camp early. We had to be on the road before breakfast. We cleared out of the dorm as quietly as possible, and picked up some portable breakfast from the kitchen. We said good-bye to Adam, and headed out.

The drive to Ft. Lauderdale was easy; there wasn’t much traffic. The van was pretty quiet; just about everyone in the van slept for most of the trip. When we got to Ft. Lauderdale, I complained to the guys that they had slept the whole way, but I had only gotten an hour of sleep while driving. It took them a while to decide that I was kidding.

The flight home was mostly uneventful. The only “concern” was as we got onto the plane in Charlotte. The agent taking tickets as we entered the jetway gave me grief about the fact that one of the scouts didn’t have an ID. I pointed out that I had checked with the airline about this before we left, and was told very explicitly that as long as I could act in loco parentis and vouch for them, there would be no problem. And of course, there had been no problem on any of the previous flights. I guess he was feeling his oats. Anyway, we all made it onto the plane and arrived in Indianapolis right about on time. Our rides picked us up and brought us back to Urbana, tired but happy to have had such a great trip.
