This is a transcription of the journal I kept on Troop 104's 1999 trek
to Philmont Scout Ranch. I have made a few modifications here and there
to improve the continuity and correct grammatical problems. I've added
occasional afterthoughts [in brackets]. But for the most part, this is
my journal as I kept it on the trail. I hope that it will help our crew
members recall one of the best experiences of their lives. I also hope
that it will help others understand why Philmont is so special to those
who have been there.
The altitudes quoted here are from the Philmont trail maps. Some are
from explicit marks, some are interpolated from the contour lines. The
latter are probably only accurate to within 20 feet or so.
