what festival organizers said about the film.
"Director Jay Rosenstein's all-out pleasurable
documentary The Amasong Chorus: Singing Out presents
Amasong Champaign Urbana's Premier Lesbian Feminist
Chorus. This documentary explores issues of homophobia,
community and the need for personal expression. The
documentary revolves around Amasong founder Kristina
Boerger, and her struggles to become a queer activist
and musician, as well as her brushes with discrimination
and how she rose from adversity to found such a revolutionary
and inspirational yet initially rather rag tag performance
troupe. Soon selling out every performance and then
winning a coveted GLAMA (Gay and Lesbian American Music
Award) for their recorded music. The most impressive
aspect remains their beautiful voices lesbian and straight
women all feminists joined as sisters, thriving in the
heartland."
The
Amasong Chorus: Singing Out is a co-production of
Jay Rosenstein and WILL-TV, produced in association
with the Independent Television Service(itvs), with
funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
