Interested in management, project management, and other opportunities in the area of environmental sustainability, with a special interest in energy conservation and alternative energy.

Current Position

August 2004 to present

Director, i-card Programs, University of Illinois. The i-card Programs Office promotes and supports the development of ID-cardÐbased programs across the University of Illinois campuses and maintains an enterprisewide database of university ID numbers. Programs include card issuance and card-based access to residence halls and other buildings, meal plans, debit accounts, library borrowing, student health services, campus recreation facilities, public transportation, and a number of other services.

As director, I set the strategic goals for program development and direct i-card Programs staff in our work with campus representatives to expand and maintain programs.

Previous Experience

Technical Communication and Project Management

2001Ð2005

Documentation specialist and project manager, i‑card Programs, University of Illinois. Managed Web-based application development projects; gathered and documented clientsÕ business requirements for Web-based applications and designed user interfaces for them; worked with i-card ProgramsÕ director to develop and implement data security and privacy policies; worked with the director and campus representatives on policies related to the types of ID cards used on the campuses; produced and oversaw the production of end-user documentation, policy and procedures documents, and ID card documentation; managed a small team.

1997Ð2001

Senior information developer and lead technical writer, NCS Learn, Champaign, Illinois. Started as a writer/editor and was promoted to managed a small technical communication team; managed documentation projects; set the direction for the end-user documentation suite for our divisionÕs most profitable product (included both print and online components); led the development of style and formatting guides for internal and end-user documents (both print and online); produced HTML-based online help and print manuals for end users; assisted with user interface design.


Municipal Government

1993Ð1997

Alderperson, Urbana City Council. Chaired Committee on Environment and Public Safety, Traffic Commission, and Cunningham Township Budget Committee; served as Urbana representative on several intergovernmental committees and task forces, including the Intergovernmental Solid Waste Disposal Association and the Champaign-Urbana Mayors' Bicycle Safety Task Force.

Publishing

1992Ð1997

Coordinator of survey research information services, Survey Research Laboratory, University of Illinois at Chicago, Urbana Office. Served as production editor for the laboratoryÕs newsletter; copyedited journal submissions; copyedited and produced conference proceedings and client reports; wrote, copyedited, and produced annual reports, training manuals, and informational brochures; ran a 3,000-volume library.

1988Ð1992

Proofreader and editor, freelance, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Clients included University of Illinois Press; Wolfram Research, Inc.; National Council of Teachers of English; Publication Services; and nonÐnative English speaking graduate students for whom I edited dissertations, conference papers, and journal submissions.
